Indo - Sri Lanka Artist Exchange Program 2019

Indo Sri Lanka Artist Exchange program is a concept of renowned Indonesian Artist Antonious Kho and Sri Lankan Artist Chathuranga Biyagama as a project to develop the Contemporary Art opportunities between the two countries. The idea of this project is to collaborate five (05) leading Indonesian artists head by renowned Indonesian international artist Antonious Kho with four (04) Sri Lankan upcoming artists lead by Sri Lankan International Artist Chathuranga Biyagama. This program is organizing as a joint project between Indonesia and Sri Lanka to develop the Contemporary art activities between the two countries. Antonious Kho and Chathuranga Biyagama from Sri Lanka organized this program as a project to develop Artistic and cultural collaborations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Gallery Four Life (Pvt) Ltd, The Lionel Wendt Art Gallery, Sri Lanka and The Arma Museum, Bali, Indonesia collaborates together in this wonderful Art project without any government aid or funding but only by the contributions of the participant artists. At the first stage of this program, five (05) Indonesian Artists Head by Mr. Antonious Kho will visit Sri Lanka with their art works and perform a group art exhibition with the participation of the five Sri Lankan Artists lead by Chathuranga Biyagama at Lionel Wendt Gallery, Colombo 7, Sri Lanka from 28th January 2019 to 2nd February 2019. In the Second stage of this program, the relevant five (05) Sri Lankan Artists will visit Indonesia with their Art works and perform a group art exhibition with the participation of the five (05) Indonesian artists who have exhibited in Sri Lanka. The Indonesian exhibition is scheduled from 28th February 2019 to 2nd March 2019 at Arma Museum, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia.

The artist's profile and career

Chathuranga Biyagama, born in 1983 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. A self tutored Artists who showed up his skills in the time of schooling at St.Joseph’s College, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Chathuranga's Fine Art skills were recognized both nationally and internationally when he was a child. Not like other contemporary artists a Banker by profession, who involves in the field of Contemporary Arts to full fill his passion.

Chathuranga has his own style foamed with Cubism specialized with the Palette knife technique in painting. The Artistic journey of “Chathuranga” was recognized in many ways at various National & International forums from his childhood.

Recognition of Chathuranga's work,

Chathuranga achieved the Silver award for the second place of "Jathika Ran Thilina"(National Gold Excellency Awards) 1998 organised by the Sri Lanka National Child Art Foundation.

Chathuranga won the Second Place Silver Award from the Nippon International Child Art Competition, Japan in the year 2000 which was the first most International award in his Artistic carreer.

Awarded the Silver Award for the Second place of “Jathika Ran Thilina"(National Gold Excellency Awards) 2001 organised by the Sri Lanka National Child Art Foundation.

Become a member of the Sri Lanka Art Society in the age of Nineteen (19).

Chathuranga represented Sri Lanka in the 11th Asian Art Biennale at Bangladesh, Dhaka in 2003 in the age of 20. The youngest Sri Lankan artist who was selected among the Thirty (30) best Sri Lankan Fine Artists selected by the Department of Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka in 2003.

Chathuranga’s Fine Art work has been highly evaluated by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and awarded honorary recognition of the Art Council, Bangladesh.

Chathuranga was invited by The Beppu Art Museum, Japan to participate in The Beppu Asia Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2007 held in Oita, Japan.

Chathuranga and his painting titled "Unconventional Affair” selected among the best Sixty (60) artists in the World from the 2014 International Art Competition held at Taiwan. There were estimated3, 017pieces of artworks submitted for the 2014 International Art Competition created by artists from 70 different countries but only 60 artists were selected for this occasion held at Taipei, Taiwan.
Chathuranga Biyagama represented Sri Lanka in the 16th Asian Art Biennale 2014 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Asian Art Biennale is an international event with local artist's pieces being displayed and works from countries such as Nepal, Iran, China, Thailand, Korea, Pakistan, Egypt, Japan, Chile, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Romania, Turkey, Fiji, Italy, Sudi Arabia and many more. Chathuranga's paintings were exhibit in this function at Bangladesh Shilpakala academy from 5th December 2014 to 31st December 2014.
